I’d probably have a quiet time on top

With the easing of lockdown some of the popular summits were crowded. As I walked up to the summit of Fan Fawr I could see that Pen y Fan across the valley was no exception so my choice was a good one. I now usually park in the small car park at SN 987 181 and walk up the ridge to the top. Before I got my SOTA Mountain Goat I would do Pen y Fan first then cross the road and do Fan Fawr after…I’ve grown wiser. Didn’t see many on top and of those I saw they were socially distancing, with me anyway.

Great run on 2m with quite a few on 60m finishing off with s2s from Jordan again, Rod, Viki and John TQE earlier.  I did take the time to take a photo of Alistair MW0TYM/p and Alice MW7SQT/p who were doing the double...nice to see you both.  The ‘icing on the cake’ was to hear Neil and Karen  calling me for an s2s from Moel y Gamelin after such a long absence from the mountains, great to have you both back in the log.

HF:- Elecraft KX2 (8 watts) and 4Ah LiPo

Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils)

(VHF) Yaesu FT270 & Yaesu FT2 (5watts) into a ‘Slim G’.

Antenna support – 5m Fishing pole
