GW/SW-004 – Waun Rydd

The car park at SO 056175 was nearly full when I arrived at 9:30am. A steep climb from the car park brings you up on to Craig Fan Ddu then 2.5 miles via Craig Fan Las to the summit of Waun Rydd GW/SW-004.

I quickly set up the radio gear and during the next hour or so had 22 contacts in the log including s2s with activators on Helvellyn G/LD-003 in the Lake District and friends Karen 2W0XYL/p on Moel Siabod GW/NW-010, Gerald M0WML/p  on Periton Hill G/SC-006 and Rod MM0JLA/p on Meall Reamhar GM/SS-105 in Scotland. Great day with blue sky and sunshine, in complete contrast to Rhobell Fawr .

My activation set-up

HF:- Elecraft KX2 (8 watts) and 4Ah LiPo

Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils)

(VHF) Yaesu FT270 & Yaesu FT2 (5watts) into a ‘Slim G’.

Antenna support – 5m Fishing pole
