G/DC-002 – Brown Willy
22/11/2018
The first of seven
An opportunity arose to get some cheap accommodation for a
week down near Holsworthy in Devon and close to Don G0RQL which meant another
get-together with my No.1 Chaser :) The
weather forecast for our 7 day stay was not brilliant so as the forecast was
good for our first day we decided to tackle Brown Willy which is a 3.15km walk
from the large car park at SX 138818. Make sure you hit the bridge at SX 152804
later on your journey.

I’d already alerted that I would be working certain
frequencies if free and having arrived on summit near my allocated time it was
no surprise that a few chasers were waiting on my chosen frequency. First in
the log was Rod who very soon had a spot up for me …thanks Rod. I had a good
run on 60m so thanks to all the chasers
many of which were looking towards completing the summit after activating it at
some time or other. ( …to complete a summit you activate it and chase it).

Towards Rough Tor with G4VPX/p below...taken from Trig
On to 80m to make sure that those who can’t use 60m have a chance
to chase the summit and as I was in Karl’s home patch I tried to make sure that
this would be the trend throughout the week.

Rough Tor from Trig
80m soon fell silent and as Val was still feeling warm
despite a bitterly cold wind I ventured on to 40m which brought my one and only
s2s of the day so thank you Egon….

The chasers on 40m soon fell silent so we made our way off the mountain before we felt too cold as we were both suffering from colds which had hit us before starting our visit. There were still 6 summits to go….
