Second of Two
My GPS track
Rod and Viki were already on their summits by the time I
reached the top. I was lucky not only to
get Viki in my log for an s2s but also Neil and Phil. Phil had already activated this one in the
morning but only using 2m. I soon
qualified the summit with a call to Mal who had just finished with Phil.

In the 'bomb hole'
There was no sign of
Rod on 2m but he soon called me as I made my way through a mini-pileup on 60m.

Untidy office as I come back from changing the loading coils
It was really cold and I was glad I had set up in what I
call ‘the bomb hole’ which protected me from the Southerly blast. Brian G8ADD had warned me
that the rain was moving in over the Bristol Channel and would soon be hitting
South Wales with a possibility of snow on high ground.

Heading back down to the car
As the calls came to an end I quickly packed up and made my
way down hill with the intention of meeting up with Rod and Viki at Storey Arms
where I assumed they would have parked their car. I didn’t know which car park they were in so
decided to visit the one opposite the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre. Good choice as I saw Viki packing her rucksack
into their car but no sign of Rod. Viki
came and sat in the warmth of my car sharing some lovely mince pies…Rod arrived
as it was getting dark and just before the rain turned to sleet…we had a long
chat before going our separate ways…great ending to an enjoyable SOTA day on
the mountains.
My
activation set-up
HF:- Elecraft KX2 (10
watts) and 4Ah LiPo
Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m
loading coils)
Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
Thanks everyone for
the contacts
