First of two – winter has arrived

Rod M0JLA had forewarned me that he and Viki M6BWA  would be out on Pen y Fan and Fan Fawr today so I decided that I would activate Fan Nedd and Tor y Foel to pick up some useful winter bonus and s2s points.

Lucky I arrived on summit a little earlier as they were both in full swing on their respective summits and eager to swap summits as soon as possible as they might well be descending in the dark on their last one of the day.  It was a frenzy of exchanges for s2s as John MW0XOT/p threw in his callsign from Pegwn Mawr…great fun and chaos for 4 minutes or so…….

I soon set about getting my HF antenna up as there was a bitterly cold breeze blowing from the East. A nice run of chasers on 60m with a surprise call for an s2s from Neil…we never seem to get our timings right for s2s but this time we were in the right place at the right time…thanks Neil.

With a few getting in my log for the second time I soon finished the run on 80m announcing that I was going QRT as I had to move on to my next summit which involved a car journey and trying to hit the summit to coincide with Rod and Viki…they were now going to swap summits.

My activation set-up

HF:- Elecraft KX2 (10 watts) and 4Ah LiPo

Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils)

Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
