GW/SW-006 Fan Gyhirych

A long walk

GW/SW-006 Fan Gyhirych

21/03/2016

Park at SN-8963 2219 but leave enough room for any agricultural vehicles to pass..gates are locked. It’s about 3.5miles to the summit but very easy to walk along the track..1hr 30mins to summit…excellent for SOTA bike weekend….
My GPS track
On our way
Our target..Fan Gyhirych
Fan Brycheiniog in the distance
Getting closer
Turn right here..i.e NW..follow faint track to summit
I self spotted for 60m and had a steady stream of regular chasers with very good signal reports both ways..this band was certainly in good shape.

Sun shining but a cold breeze

A text from Mike G6TUH saying that there was a nice quiet frequency on 40m saw me make a quick link change and away again with an orderly pile-up. There were many WAB chasers calling including a trig to trig with Darius…once again this band was working well with good signal reports on both sides.

I had been in text contact with Matt G8XYJ who had said he’d be going home from work at dinner time to give me call. Calling for Matt on 2m brought a few chasers to the log including Phil MMG and Don RQL..5/5 each way to Devon. I sent a text to Matt saying that I was waiting for him on 2m and very soon he was in the log with a 5/5 from Ludlow (my sig 5/2).

Cray reservoir below

Now I had alerted that I would try 80m hoping to plug in the linear but silly me I’d left the TX link lead at home, nevertheless, I did get 3 contacts after spotting with 5/8-9 reports using 5 watts. As you can see I picked up an s2s on 2m whilst playing with 80m so thanks to John GW4TQE/p who was on GW/NW-067 Moel y Gest…thanks John. Well done to someone who got me on all four bands…Don :)

80m link from 20m link on dipole

My activation set up today:-  (HF) Yaesu FT817 (5 watts) (4Ah LiPo),  3 band link dipole (60/40/20),  (VHF) Yaesu FT270 (5watts) & cable tie dipole for 2m - 7m Fishing pole.

Thanks everyone for the contacts and the spots.
