Nice pile-up with new and old friends calling in

I parked at the Bryn Glo car park SH736570. Thinking back I should have tried the carpark at Plas y Brenin as I could see later on from the summit that there were plenty of parking spots and that approach is an easier route to the summit.  I was soon on my way heading up for the bridge which takes you across the Afon Llygwy, this would be a far more interesting and testing route anyway.

My route from SOTA mapping by Roger MW0IDX

Leaving an empty carpark

Short walk to the bridge (Pont Cyfyng) to cross the Afon Llygwy

Pont Cyfyng and the Afon Llygwy

It was rather hot and when I first glimpsed the summit it looked as if it was going to be a cracking day. Little did I realise although warned by various weather forecasts that there would be heavy downpours of rain and hailstones.

A glimpse of my target as I climb out of Pont Cyfyng

Heading for the gate and my track up through the mines

Following the track towards the mine and beside 'no name lake'?

Nice reflection at the second lake

Hail and rain arriving...time for the overtrousers

Heavy rain now at Llyn y Foel

Poor visibility at Llyn y Foel...need wipers on my glasses.

Involves a lot of scrambling over and between large boulders..looking back down

At last...the trigpoint

In glorious sunshine I set up below the trigpoint and far enough away from visitors. I called on 145.500 thinking that my spot from 15 minutes ago would have alerted chasers to my imminent transmissions…that never arrived on Sotawatch?  Nevertheless, I was greeted with a massive pile -up and soon qualified the summit in 3 minutes…thanks everyone.

Not too far from the trigpoint

After a long sweaty trek to the summit and not having done my usual change of essential clothing from the rucksack I was getting rather chilly even though the sun was out.  It was time to pull the plug have a warm coffee, something to eat and get moving to generate some heat. Great day and thanks to all the chasers.
