GW/MW-030 – Stingwern Hill
14/May/2021
The bands opened up…..
I parked at SJ131015 and walked down the road to the fence
for access on to the PROW. The barbed wire at the access point has been cut so
getting over the fence is ‘relatively’ easy. It’s just a pity that with a few
bits of timber this could be a really easy access point as I can see damage
being made to the wire fence in the future.
Once again I followed Phil G4OBK’s GPS track from SOTA Mapping (and instructions from Matt G8XYJ).... 250m and
you are on summit!
From the spots I could see that John G4TQE/p was on 60m but Mal
GW6OVD who’d been sitting on the frequency told me that John had just moved to
40m…thanks Mal. A quick s2s shout and we made it quickly followed by Matt
G8XYJ/p on 2m…thanks both.

Good run of chasers on 2m then quickly on to 60m which
worked really well especially in to GI land. I could hear Viki calling on 2m so
she and Rod were in the log for another couple of s2s…thanks both. A quick dash
to insert the 80m loading coil and I was calling on 80m which produced some
good signal reports.

When my spot hit Sotawatch for 40m I was inundated with
calls from both UK and European stations. It was great fun and it looks like we
are in for some good times on the HF bands…once again fingers crossed.

A good run on 20m with a bonus of 3 s2s. It was great to get
my friend and fellow club member Chris 2W0LVE in the log for the third time on

Mal had told me that 10m was open but I had my mind on my next
summit so pulled the plug. As it happened it was a good move as within a few
miles I came across a road closed sign so had to divert a considerable distance
which put me behind time for the next one.
