GW/MW-028- Frenni Fawr
22/08/1017
Back on the hills in
GW
Park in the lay-by at SN188359
More of a test today to see if my back would protest to
carrying a rucksack with radio gear in it on to a SOTA summit…thankfully all
went well which means Val and I can get back to activate a few of those uniques
that I need to tick off the list :)
On my way....
Trig ahead...
The
bands were not behaving today with some very rapid QSB (fading) but
nevertheless I made quite a few contacts including eight s2s.
Just out of the wind and prepared for rain

Chasing s2s
I had quite a bit of fun on 70cms with Don G0RQL making my
log with genuine 5/9 each way. I was
using a Nagoya NA-771 (2m/70cms) whip on my Kenwood TH-F7 with 5 watts. Don’s beam was horizontally polarised and I
was vertical and standing at the Trig…not a bad trip to Holsworthy in Devon :)
View from the Trig...Holsworthy, Devon..somewhere in that direction
Purple heather and a view towards Fishguard and Mynydd Carningli
It was nice to get Gerald F/M0WML/P in the log…activating a
10 point summit in France . Gerald and I
had arranged a sked via text and it all worked out perfectly….thanks G. Only two GW summits in the log today, one from
Adrian and the other from Richard GW4TGJ who is new to SOTA…thanks both of you.
Towards Cardigan Bay
After chasing a few s2s it came as quite
a shock to me to hear Bill G4WSB booming in at a genuine 5/9 on 20m and giving
me 5/9 also…like me he hadn’t had much success on the other bands and was over
the moon to get me in his log…thanks Bill.
Activation
set up:- (HF) Yaesu FT817 (4Ah LiPo), UK-MX 50M linear (for 817) and (4Ah LiPo) Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m
loading coils), VHF)
Yaesu FT270 (5watts) into a ‘cable tie’
dipole Kenwood TH-F7 for
70cms
Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
Thanks
everyone for the contacts
