GW/MW-015 - Bryn Amlwg
28/08/2017
More s2s hopefully (see previous blog..Garreg Hir in the morning)
Bryn Amlwg is situated in a wind farm with some 60+
generators whirring away and boy were they noisy today. I parked the car at SN
930958 and headed North down what seemed like a fairly new road then up to pick
up the various bridle and other paths that were showing on the map...1.7miles
to summit.
My GPS track
Park here at SN 930958..Val is heading for the gate to take us North.
Head North through the gate ..no Private signs visible...new road
Heading up towards wind farm at SN 925962
Trig on the horizon
There was a strong breeze and
the turbines were all working hard with the occasional clunks breaking up the
wind noise. I started the activation with a surprise s2s with Rob MW0VFC/p who was
on Eilidir Fawr so thanks Rob for the valuable points…he was hoping to activate
Snowdon later… 60m was working well and a good run of chasers made my log…thanks
everyone.
Now where does this plug into ?

I quickly moved on to 40m but this band had changed from the
my morning session (Garreg Hir) and the chasers soon dried up nevertheless it was nice to
get so many in the log.

By the Trig
Now Tom and Jimmy were due on Moel Hebog GW/NW-014 but I noticed that they had changed their
activation time which was a little later than planned…Val and I would have to
hang around for a while to pick up some more s2s points and as the sun had decided
to show itself it was now quite a pleasant
afternoon. I decide to attack 20m….quite
a pile-up really :)

The band went quiet…perhaps the chasers dried up or my
batteries were running low…not sure what
happened so I decide to call on 2m with
a spot to help me along. Only one chaser in the log but it also eventually
brought Tom to my attention to say that Jimmy would be on the summit shortly
and he wasn’t too far behind…thanks both for the contacts.

Apart from the wind turbines Bryn Amlwg is an easy summit
especially if you have a bike as the link roads are all nice and smooth……
Activation set
up:- (HF) Yaesu FT817 (4Ah LiPo), UK-MX 50M linear (for 817) and
(4Ah LiPo) Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20
(+15m extensions +80m loading coils),
(VHF) Yaesu FT270 (5watts) into a ‘cable tie’
dipole Kenwood TH-F7 for 70cms
Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
Thanks everyone for
the contacts
