GW/MW-017 - Garreg Hir

GW/MW-017 - Garreg Hir

28/08/2017

Mission accomplished

Yet another s2s today with Gerald over in Germany.  We arrived at the parking spot at SO 011967 with just enough time to spare to get to the summit, set-up and collect 10 s2s points.
My GPS track..1.2 miles to summit
Follow the track for about a third of the way
Llyn Mawr on the way up
Arriving at the stile which enters the Open Access land ...Llyn Mawr and Llyn Du below
Gerald had already started but soon heard me when I flicked the switch on the linear and announced ‘summit to summit’..5/8 both ways…thanks Gerald.   As the links were already set for 40m I dropped down below Gerald and sent a spot announcing my frequency.
Fiddling with my phone again...to get a spot up
A nice run of chasers came back to my calls but only John TDM up in Penrith and Phil OBK in Yorkshire were UK contacts so 60m would have to be next on the agenda.

Ready to enter a callsign into the log
First on 60m was Don RQL saying that he could not hear me on 40m and glad I had dropped down to this band. A nice run of regulars followed with Scotland and Northern Ireland making my log…thanks everyone.

I had Alerted that I would call on 2m and that effectively  is what I did with no response even though I sent a spot.  Has everyone gone to digital?  As a few s2s were likely at the time we were alerted for Bryn Amlwg I packed up and we were quickly heading down hill.

Activation set up:-  (HF) Yaesu FT817 (4Ah LiPo), UK-MX 50M linear (for 817) and (4Ah LiPo) Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils),            (VHF)  Yaesu FT270 (5watts) into a ‘cable tie’ dipole Kenwood TH-F7 for 70cms
Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.

Thanks everyone for the contacts
