Joint activation with Colin M1BUU

I was on my way up to the SOTA weekend in the Lake District and couldn’t resist activating the summit as it was only a short drive off the M6 motorway and on my ‘to do’ list.. It was also a chance to have a joint activation with Colin M1BUU who had recently moved to the area. We met up at the car park at SD552761 and I duly followed Colin to the summit on one of the many routes that are available.

Summit in sight

I easily qualified the summit on 2m including an s2s with David GW8NZN on Pencloddiau closely followed by Rod MI0JLA/p over on a Sota expedition with Viki in Northern Ireland. Colin went on to HF immediately and had an enjoyable time on CW.

Summit selfie before leaving.

It was great to meet up with Colin, the main topic of conversation being radio and SOTA. The time passed quickly and we soon headed down hill with Colin heading home and me back to the M6 and a B&B in Windermere. We both looked forward to meeting the following day….thanks for the company Colin.

My activation set-up

HF:- Elecraft KX2 (8 watts) and 4Ah LiPo

Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils)

(VHF) Yaesu FT270 (5watts) into a ‘cable tie’ dipole.

Antenna support – 5m Fishing pole

Thanks everyone for the contacts
