I decided to take a different approach to the summit by parking at SO239372 (Hay Bluff car park) and walking up the side of Hay Bluff to the Trig point.

Once you reach the Trig it’s an easy but fairly long walk to the activation zone for Black Mountain. A few text messages had been flying around between Rod, Barry and me,  it was evident that we would all be on our respective summits at roughly the same time. Rod and Viki were first in the log with an s2s on three bands from Caer Caradog G/WB-006 and Long Mynd Pole Banc G/WB-005 respectively. Barry on G/SE-013 Detling Hill soon found me as I spotted a frequency on 60m…thanks everyone.

I had a feeling that Karl would be waiting on 80m so a quick addition of 80m coils and Karl, Dave and Ken were in the log with a bonus s2s with Mark on G/CE-005 Wendover Woods.

My Activation set up

 (HF) Elecraft KX2 (10 watts) and 4Ah LiPo

 Antenna - 3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils)

(VHF)  Yaesu FT270 (5watts) and Kenwood TH-F7(70cms)  

into a ‘cable tie’ dipole

Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
