GW/SW-015 Mynydd Llangorse

The second of the Classic double....please read previous post

GW/SW-015 Mynydd Llangorse

16/02/2017

We dropped down to the car once more opting to zig-zag down the steep bit off Mynydd Troed.  A nice cup of coffee and one of Val’s homemade muffins at the car set us up for a quick dash up on to Mynydd Llangorse.

The way to the top
Pen y Fan and Corn Du in the distance.
We had decided not to visit the trig today but opted to head for a spot well within the AZ of the summit with some protection from the cold breeze blowing from the North. I had missed Glyn GW4CSF/p during our journey between the two summits so my only hope for an s2s was with Rod and Adrian…fingers crossed.

I used the SMS button on RRT to spot myself for 80m as there was no 3G/4G signal. A good run of chasers followed quite quickly after I pressed the button with really good signal reports all round from myself and most chasers.
Mynydd Troed behind...our morning summit

As soon as I finished on 80m I gave Lee MW6LPU down in Llangorse a quick call on 2m which also brought Rod to my log with an s2s from GW/SW-014 Mynydd Carn y Cefn . He had decided to brave the elements and activate his second summit of the day (it doesn't take much persuading)…thanks Rod.

Working the chasers

Loading coils removed and links back in place I was soon tackling another nice orderly pile-up. It was also nice to get Lothar DL3HXX and Rob PA0B in the log on 60m. Good signal reports all round with some regular chasers making my log apologising that they had missed me on Mynydd Troed in the morning…thanks everyone.

It didn’t take long to announce ‘final calls’ and with dark clouds looming behind us I slowly started to pack up with Val monitoring the calling frequency on 2m. Didn’t take long before Adrian was calling from Fan Fawr GW/SW-005 and my final s2s for the day was in the log….32 s2s points today….thanks Adrian. We listened to Adrian’s run of chasers as we packed up and made our way down..he was kept very busy…..

Heading back down...our car in the bwlch below

My activation set up:-  (HF) Yaesu FT817 (5 watts) (4Ah LiPo),  UK-MX 50M linear (for FT817) and (4Ah LiPo),  3 band link dipole (60/40/20 (+15m extensions +80m loading coils),  (VHF) Yaesu FT270 (5watts) into a ‘cable tie’ dipole.. Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.

Thanks everyone for the contacts
