GW/SW-009 Mynydd Troed
16/02/2017
First of the classic double
Early start today as we had to be on summit by 10:00 as Rod
MW0JLA/p had alerted for Cefn yr Ystrad and there was a
chance that I could get Glyn GW4CFS/p in the log also for another s2s. Parking
at SO160283 we made our way to the top having debated whether to go straight up
or zig-zag the first steep bit…we decided to go straight up once more.

Looking back down...our car in the bwlch below...Llangorse lake in the distance
Glyn was quickly in the log from Black
Mountain GW/SW-041 and my first s2s on the 2m hand held as I hadn’t had time to
set up anything else…thanks Glyn.

Wishing Glyn a ‘safe descent’ I quickly set about erecting
the HF and VHF antenna with 80m being my first band so loading coils were
fixed in place and I was ready to go. A spot was sent via the RRT SMS function and
almost immediately Karl M3FEH and Ken G0FEX were in my log. An excellent run of
chasers followed hitting me at 5/9. Helen M6HMK made my log with 5/5 each way
having just crossed her first 100 chaser points…well done Helen. Rod called in from Cefn yr Ystrad GW/SW-008 to
give me my second s2s of the day…thanks Rod.

80m pile-up underway
Waun Fach GW/SW-002 in the distance...to be visited at the end of the month
I moved to 60m but there weren’t as many chasers this time
as most had visited me on 80m. Sake PA0SKP made the trip from the Netherlands
with John G0TDM, Gez M0NTC and Terry G0VWP getting in on the action.

I was very much aware that Adrian GW4AZS/p was due on Pen y
Fan GW/SW-001 so a quick call on 2m brought Lee MW6LPU to the log …Lee lives
down in Llangorse. I was aware that a /p
station was calling so I quickly finished with Lee to give the /p station a
chance….it turned out to be Rod informing me that it was pouring with rain on
his summit and giving him second thoughts about activating the next one unless
the weather improved. I told him I was
packing up slowly but would be hanging on for Adrian keeping my fingers crossed
that it would not be too long a wait. As
soon as Rod finished I gave a call for Lee once more and we had a nice little
chat about SOTA as he was only just starting to get interested and hoping to activate a few local summits in
the near future. The time passed quickly and as I was packing the last items
into the rucksack up pops Adrian for my final contact and s2s from Mynydd Troed..thanks Adrian.
