On Friday the weather looked promising so I decided to head towards the summit of Craig y Llyn near Hirwaun. My journey to the summit from the parking spot was quite pleasant with quite a few inches of snow under foot. I bungeed the pole to the trig point and settled down to begin the activation on 40m with a ear on 2m for Rod and Viki who were out and about on a few summits.

A call from Mal started proceedings and within a very short time Viki MW6BWA/p on GW/SW-014 was in the log with my first S2S.

I quickly ventured on to 40m as I knew that Rod MW0JLA/p would soon find me so that he could get the S2S also. A good run of regular chasers kept me busy with excellent band conditions with the majority of incoming calls being 5/9 or +.

As my pole was attached to the trig (TP2534 – Craig y Llyn) I gave a quick call into the WAB net. This  brought an immediate response and a comment that they should run me down the list as quick as possible as I was /p and ‘sitting in the snow’ :)

I quickly started to pack away but not without giving a call on 2m on the off chance that someone might want both the summit and Trig – only one taker. Rucksack on and the FT270 came to life with Neil MW0ECX/p calling ‘CQ SOTA’ from GW/SW-015 – a bonus S2S – thanks Neil.
