GW/SW-001 Pen y Fan

No points today!

GW/SW-001 (Pen y Fan)

19/Mar/2015

The weather forecast promised a sunny but cold day so we decided to ‘stroll’ up to Pen y Fan as part of a ‘get fit’ strategy for a proposed walking holiday later in the year!!  Our little group comprised of my XYL Val and friends Len and Gwyneth. As our walking holiday will involve some SOTA activations it was appropriate that I activate the summit although it would be for the second time this year. No SOTA points for me and as it would be a short stay on top I opted for 2m only...sorry..

I chose a circular route heading up the Beacons Way path, skirting SE of Corn Du to the summit of PyF. The return journey would be up on to Corn Du then down along the ridge of Craig Cwm Llwch and back to the Storey Arms Centre.

Allowing the ladies to ‘set the pace’ we arrived at a very busy summit even though it was mid-week.

It was cold on top but as we arrived the wind eased up, the sun shone and it was quite pleasant for the duration of our stay and my activation..

It was quite hard work getting ten contacts into the log but I did have some nice conversations so thanks to all who responded to my calls.

I quickly packed away and after the customary  summit photo we made our way to Corn Du dropping off the edge (icy today) on to the ridge of Craig Cwm Llwch with Llyn Cwm Llwch below us.

Heading SW towards the stream of Blaen Taf Fawr we eventually reached the Storey Arms Centre  with another short walk back to our car at the second car park SE of the Centre.

73 till the next time....
