GW/NW-002 Carnedd Llywelyn

GW/NW-002 Carnedd Llywelyn (10 points)

16/September/2021

Easy route but a long walk

I parked up at SH731663 after a long 3 hr journey from home.  Just over 4 miles to walk to the summit but easy navigation with a faint grass path for most of the way.

My route

Parking spot at SH731663

Heading for the ridge

Carnedd Llywelyn in the clouds

Dulyn reservoir to my NW

Tryfan peeping through

Carneddau mountain ponies with Carnedd Llywelyn in the cloud

Carneddau mountain ponies

Coastguard Rescue helicopter training against cliff face of Carnedd Llywelyn

Yr Elen coming into view

On summit...4m pole with modified Slim G for 2m-fm

Pen Llithrig y Wrach..my next target

Carnedd Dafydd with SOTA summits in the distance

Towards Bethesda

Once again travelling light with regards to the radio side.  Yaesu FT270 with Yaesu FT2 as backup with the modified Slim G and 4m Decathalon Fibreglass pole which I would just extend from the side pocket of my rucksack for the activation without deploying the string supports.

Simon s2s diff mode

It was a fantastic run of chasers with other activator friends calling in from various summits during my stay…thanks everybody.

Some of my contacts

Don G0RQL in Devon took the prize for the furthest chaser at 158 miles but I must say that Rod MM0JLA/p and Viki MM6BWA/p did well with 151miles on their MFD (Multi Functional Dipole) antenna from Cairn Hill for an s2s.

Time to move

Towards the North East with wind farms  floating on the horizon

Long way down.....

My activation set-up

VHF Antenna support – 4m Decathalon Glass Fibre Fishing pole

(VHF-UHF) Yaesu FT270 - FM (5-watts) into a ‘Slim G’

Thanks everyone for the contacts
