GW/MW-025 – The Begwns
14/01/2019
Second of the day
The Roundabout at the top of the hill that forms part of The Begwns (easy summit)
The Trig next to the Roundabout
I’d managed to get halfway up to The Begwns before I heard
Viki calling on 70cms, so once I was up next to the wall I gave her a call on
the handheld….in the log with a qsy to 2m for her also as well as picking up
Matt in Cheltenham…thanks Viki.

I quickly set up the 7m pole for this one as I’d left my 5m
pole and walking sticks back in the car. I’d set up not too far from the trig and out
of the wind. The links had been set for 60m but a spot came up on 40m for John
MW0XOT/p on Mynydd Llangorse which I could see in the distance. A quick tap on
the ATU button on the KX2 and I was able to safely call John for an s2s with
5/9 each way….thanks once again John. By now Rod was up and running on 60m, he
too was quickly in the log so I moved with a qsy frequency announcement. A nice
run of chasers followed and a surprise HNY contact with Ken and Christine from
Edinburgh.

Sun my previous summit..taken from The Begwns
I quickly added the 80m coils, sent a spot to Sotawatch but
my calls went unanswered….it transpired I was being swamped by an UK station
running high power and taking up a considerable amount of bandwidth….ah well
time for coffee and sandwiches. Whilst eating my dinner I tried to help Viki to
get an s2s with John (success eventually), had a nice chat with Lee in
Llangorse and a really good contact with Peter up in Wolverhampton. A
good day with a total of 10 activation points.
