Chasing s2s..again

A last minute alert on Sotawatch and Val and I were away down to Newport, Pembrokeshire to activate Mynydd Carningli. We approached from the West which gave a nice long walk in the sunshine.
My GPS track
Newport below

Being unsure of what the HF bands were like I just assembled the ‘cable tie dipole’ for 2m on a few section of the fishing pole and also the summit was busy so I kept a low profile.  Nevertheless I soon qualified the summit,  some long QSOs and including s2s with 5/9 each way contacts with John on Gamallt and Mal and Ian on Waun Fach…thanks everyone including Don RQL all the way from Devon..nice one...

Away on 60m
The hordes vanished and I set up for HF although not in my usual spot as there was still someone sitting there!  Nice run on 60m with varying signal reports depending on which direction they were calling from…interesting.

Attaching the 80m coils
Rocky summit
Val hiding from a cold breeze

I attached the 80m coils but there was a complete mis-match. It’s very rocky on the top of Carningli so I just took them off and worked a few stations on 40m…difficult contacts.

Another SOTA summit..Foel Cwmcerwyn GW/MW-011
Yet another in the distance....Frenni Fawr GW/MW-028

With quite a few final calls on 40m I gave a call on 2m to see if Caroline would reply…she did…30 minutes to the summit of Carnedd Llywelyn…I said I’d hang around until they reached the top and eventually ended the day with two  s2s…thanks both.
