GW/MW-001 Plynlimon – Pen Pumlumon Fawr

A good haul of points today

GW/MW-001 Plynlimon – Pen Pumlumon Fawr

10/02/2016

Val and I once again took the expensive route to the summit....by that I mean I had to pay a £5 parking fee at SN 7981 8407…..thank goodness it hasn’t gone up in price..yet...  It’s 3.59km to the summit and it took us 1hour 33 minutes to walk with only fox tracks visible in the virgin snow.
My GPS track
As we neared the summit another group of walkers caught us and thanked me for showing them the way by following our tracks!
On our way
We were being followed
Summit in sight
Without spotting myself a few quick calls on 5.398.5 brought Geoffrey G7BGA to the frequency followed by Bill G4WSB who spotted me on the SOTA cluster....thanks Bill.

Everything went quiet on 60m but I could hear Viki and Rod calling from Waun Rydd GW/SW-004 on 2m. I’d plugged the dual band Kenwood handie into the 2m dipole today which also enabled me to give Viki a report on 70cms also. A nice contact with my friends Roy and Elgan followed to end a brief session on VHF.

Having changed the links and with a text from G6TUH informing me that 7.092Mhz was free and a spot ready to go I was away on 40m…thanks Mike. Conditions were really good with 5/9+ signals flying around with some comments that I should turn off the linear…that was still in the car :) … great fun with QRP…thanks everybody.

Pile-up
In between bands :)
Rod took over my frequency but not before informing me that Mal was waiting for me on 60m. Quick dash to 60m and a call to Mal without changing the links (not recommended) brought another s2s to the log and a request to move to 2m so that Ian 2W0IWM could get the summit and an s2s….job done…thanks both.

A quick visit to the WAB net brought another few contacts to the log to end my activation although many of the group had called in to my SOTA frequency. Thanks Dave SQA for the quick run-down and thanks to everyone on the net.

Great day today so thanks everyone for making it an enjoyable activation most notable being a wall of noise at one time during the pile-up on 40m but I think everybody made it into the log eventually...thanks.
My activation set up today:-  (HF) Yaesu FT817 (5 watts) (4Ah LiPo),  3 band link dipole (60/40/20),  (VHF) Kenwood TH-F7E  (5watts) and ‘cable-tie dipole’. Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
Thanks everyone for the contacts and the spots.
