GW/SW-007 Fan Nedd

Brrrr........

GW/SW-007 Fan Nedd

11/02/2015

I usually park my car at SN923197 just above the hairpin bends on the North approach to the summit. Well today there was some activity at this location in the form of a film crew using a Drone to film an immaculate Morgan car with a registration number of AERO 8. The car was being driven up and down through the hairpins. As far as I can see there does not seem to be a model with the same backend as the one in my photos but they do have a range called the Morgan Aero.
 Drone with camera on right
They were also controlling the section of road by the use of radio communications. I came to the conclusion that some sort of promo video was being made. It'll be interesting to see if anything appears on their website in the near future.
 Mist shrouding the summit
Past the cairn and towards the trig
The summit was shrouded in mist as I made my way to the top where I soon realised that it was freezing fog so a quick activation was the order of the day. The icicles were even horizontal on the blades of grass.
On arrival at the trig I immediately took off one sweaty layer and put on another 3 dry layers which hopefully would keep me warm during my stay. I bungeed the pole to the trig point and hid behind it and my rucksack as protection from the wind that had picked up then set about the activation.
An orderly pile up once again as soon as the spot kicked in with Don G0RQL being first in the log.

My flow was interrupted by 4 hill walkers who appeared out of the mist.  I had to ask Stephen 2E0SCS to stand by as they were really interested in what I was doing – their initial reaction was that I was military as they had passed a number of young Army lads with full kit on another part of the mountain.  They moved off and then another group arrived immediately so I had to repeat my speech :)... they too disappeared into the mist  - eerie. What I didn’t realise that not only Stephen was standing by but another 8 chasers were hovering :)  - thank you all.

As I was leaning against the trig (TP3108) I called into the WAB net and within 6 minutes I had finished.  So thanks Phil G7AFM for hearing me and letting me work quickly down the list.

Thanks to all the chasers for contacting me today whilst I was on Fan Nedd - 57 including 1 s2s in 40 minutes.
GW4VPX with many extra layers :)
My additional layers worked well today but I was glad to make my way down... ..brrrr. Hopefully the weather will stay kind for the rest of the Winter Bonus period as I’ve got a few more summits to knock off before it ends.
