G/LD-010 – St Sunday Crag

G/LD-010 – St Sunday Crag

03/05/2018

Wet, wet, wet

The day started out dry with the forecast of showers later in the afternoon. We parked the car on Dunmail Raise NY 327115 then made our way up past Raise Beck towards Griesdale Tarn.
My GPS track
The plan was to activate St Sunday Crag then pick up Seat Sandal G/LD-022 on the way back. It was 5.31km to the summit and the weather was still holding up but with an increasing amount of dark clouds.

A few rain drops hit our faces as I called out on 2m with the FT2D.  Val had gone to look for the Geocache as Barry and I shared the contacts to qualify the summit. As soon as he had qualified Barry went on 23cms on his handheld for a few pre-arranged skeds.

Barry’s Log
Mark M0NOM in Windermere had warned me that there was a storm brewing and heading our way. I had a good run of chasers but as I was finishing with Sue the wind picked up and it began to rain ...we looked towards Fairfield G/LD-007 and black clouds were rolling towards us…time to move.  As Val had been busy with her Geocache she had not taken any pictures of us operating….too late now as we beat a hasty retreat back down through the horizontal rain to the shelter of Deepdale Hause.
Wet wet wet

As we reached NY 344120 and the track up to Seat Sandal it was obvious that the weather was too bad to activate our second summit so it was back down past Raise Beck to the car.

Thanks everyone for the contacts
