Happy New Year everyone.

Val and I managed to get out and activate Foel Cwmcerwyn on the Preseli  Mountains today.  We had intended to be out on New Year’s Day but the weather was not very pleasant … it was well worth the wait as it turned out to be a glorious day although it was -4C on top.

In my haste to set up I snagged my HF antenna wire on something and broke it so as it was so cold I decided not to spend time repairing it and went straight on to 2m VHF using the ‘cable tie dipole’…apologies to all those waiting on HF.

I put a self spot on Sotawatch then kicked off the activation with 2 Summit to Summits one of which took me by surprise as Gerald had decided to activate Foel Goch GW/NW-039 and had alerted after I had left home in the morning…thanks Darius and Gerald.

A nice run of chasers followed with Bob RHD (Lleyn Peninsula) and Don RQL (Devon) booming in with 5/9 signals. It was nice to get Jim EI9GLB  one of my regular chasers  call in from Southern Ireland with a 5/5 each way and Mal GW6OVD making the trip from Hirwaun.  Obviously Bruce XXF, Roy DGU and Aled DLA were 5/9+being only a few miles away.  I gave 4m a try today using a Wouxun hand held…2 contacts but I intend to work on an antenna which will improve the situation in the very near future…there are a few using the band in the area.  As Val and I were leaving the summit I heard Viki calling from Moel Eilio GW/NW-022 in North Wales…she was soon in the log..thanks Viki.
