GW/MW-034
Mynydd Cynros
19/09/2016
With Mal and
Ian out on Great Rhos I had to get out and get an s2s with them. I had initially alerted for Trichrug over by
Llandovery but realised that Phil and Andy had activated it a few days ago so I
opted for MW-034. Although the weather forecast had said that it would clear up
later in the day I arrived at the parking spot in Talley with mist and rain
hanging around the valley…onwards and upwards.
Looking back towards the Church and Abbey at Talley and parking spot
Nice new surface until.....
Logging
I followed the zig-zag and soon arrived at the summit (35
minutes)and it was still raining so I threw up the tarp and then set up the
antenna.
The Tarp...not the best configuration today...forgot the pole...kept me dry though.
I soon qualified with local contacts so thanks everyone but the
surprise contact was an s2s with John TQE/p who had made a point getting up early on Rhinog
Fawr GW/NW-023 to get me…thanks John…made my day.

60m was busy
for a few minutes with Mal calling in from Great Rhos GW/MW-002 …we arranged a 2m contact so that
Ian could also get the s2s and qualify his summit…thanks to all the regular chasers
for calling me…nice to hear from Mike G6TUH after a his recent operation.

Messy office
I spotted
myself on 40m and was taken aback when Dave G6LKB called me just as my spot
went up with a booming signal from France which looked good for a pile-up on band
but this did not materialise. An alert for Victor ONL in EA6 came up on RRT so I called him without
changing the links for a quick s2s..thanks Victor for keeping the exchange nice
and short. Back to my original frequency where Pedro CKX and Rob PA0B were
waiting for me….thanks everyone.

Trig on Mynydd Cynros
I couldn’t resist calling Ian on 20m as he was such a
strong signal from Great Rhos and then a ‘stand-by’ from him also brought Mal to the log…great fun…. Spot up, linear on and I was away with a 5/9 each way contact
with George N1GB in Vermont …thanks
George. Next in the log was Ed DD5LP followed by 8 chasers some of which are
frequent activators…thanks everyone.

The mist and
the rain never really cleared and it was time to head for home…great morning on
one of my favourite small summits which has given me some good DX including
several s2s to VK.
Still misty and wet on the way down
My activation set
up:- (HF) Yaesu FT817 (5 watts) (4Ah LiPo), UK-MX
50M linear (for 817) and 12V 4 Ah LiPO battery, 3 band link dipole
(60/40/20 (+15m+80m extensions), (VHF) Yaesu FT270
(5watts) into a ‘cable tie’ dipole.. Antenna support - 7m Fishing pole.
Thanks everyone for
the contacts
