Trum y Ddysgl GW/NW-024

Another on the Nantlle Ridge

Trum y Ddysgl GW/NW-024

26/09/2015 (Saturday)

As mentioned in my previous blog Val and I had booked into a B&B in Rhyd Ddu. This was the Ty Mawr B&B and Tea Rooms run by Menno and Emma....superb.  This B&B allowed us to venture up to our chosen summits without having to use the car over the next few days.

Ty Mawr
I’d asked Barry M0IML to recommend a nice route up to Trum y Ddysgl avoiding Y Garn and Mynydd Drws y Coed.  Although slightly longer his route was a very pleasant walk through the forestry ending with a stiff climb along the ridge overlooking Cwm Dwyfor...5.62km to summit.

Heading for the forestry...then up along the distant ridge line

Snowdon, Y Lliwedd and Yr Aran from our ridge walk

We arrived on summit which coincided nicely with a text from Barry M0IML/p saying that he was on summit and operating on 60m (G/SE-013).  I quickly set up and called in getting an s2s and a further two contacts with Don and Andrew....summit nearly qualified...thanks everybody :)

I could hear David MW0YDH/p calling from GW/NW-022 Moel Eilio on 2m and within minutes he was in the log with both John and Sean calling in to get the summits....great stuff.

By now Barry had finished on 60m so a quick self-spot on his frequency and six regular chasers made the log including my friend Roy from Cardigan who’s getting better at this chasing game even though his antenna is in the attic....

With no further chasers I sent a quick text to Gerald to see if he had arrived on GW/NW-58...he replied with an ETA so we sat back and waited taking a much earned coffee break.  I was first in his log so another s2s completed.... a quick chat then thanking Gerald I left him to his pile-up :)

Another self-spot for 40m resulted in a very brief pile-up but nevertheless ending with a nice s2s with John M0XOT/p on G/WB-011 Bradnor Hill...thanks John.

Another good run on 20m brought two s2s, the first with Diego IU1AUG/p on I/TO-303 Monte Sagro and I was really happy with the other as it was Phil G4OBK on OK/KR-070...thanks both.

Now I hadn’t really called out on 2m so when I heard Alan MI0YCC/p calling from GI/MM-001 Slieve Donard I was completely thrown by the callsign....we had a little chuckle as to the confusion ( he was a long way from home)...thanks Alan for the 10 s2s points.  It was great to get Roy on 2m also and a bonus to chat to Aled MW0UPH who I hadn’t heard from for a while.

  1. Braf iawn Allan. Keep up the good work with posting routes that I can walk later. We ought to try ascending the same mountain one day. Drop me a PM with any forthcoming Saturday dates yng Nhogledd Cymru. 73 Dei M0YDH
