A long trek North
G/NP-006 - Great
Shunner Fell
24/07/2015
It’s a long trek up to the North Pennines for both Barry
M0IML and myself. Barry has a good six and
a half hour journey from Dover and it takes me about five and a half from West
Wales. We had arranged to meet at 1.00pm at a lay-by (SD893980) in the village
of Thwaite on the Pennine Way which would lead us all the way to the summit.

My GPS track for Great Shunner Fell
It was a 5.62km walk along the Pennine way to the summit, relatively
easy even after a long journey but also close to our B&B in the village of
Hawes when we returned. This was to be the first summit of 5 during the next
few days and we were starting with a 6 pointer :)
For the first few contacts we worked together then I moved on
to 2m whilst Barry stayed on 40m. I only returned to get a contact with Don G0RQL
and his Maidenhead Locator for my ARPOC award (see my blog list-right). It was all over very quickly as
contacts soon dried up on both bands with 20m being in very poor shape.... a
sign of things to come over the weekend.

My log
Signal reports were not too good on 7Mhz but enough to
qualify the summit and a couple of brief QSOs
