GW/MW-009 Beacon Hill

No snow but another cold day.

GW/MW-009 Beacon Hill

16/02/2016

Another fine day was forecast so we made our way towards Llandrindod Wells and Beacon Hill which lies to the NE of the town.

Summit in sight
It’s 2.73km to the summit taking in part of  ‘Glyndwr’s Way' but Val and I made good progress and arrived early just in time to get three s2s in rapid succession. Mal was out on Cefn yr Ystrad GW/SW-008 and Phil and Ian were on GW/SW-013 Tor y Foel.  Rod JLA joined the group and I had qualified the summit in no time at all with a few extra chasers calling in for the summit…thanks everyone.

Sheltering from the icy cold wind
There was a bit of confusion on 60m as Geoffrey G7BGA answered my call even though I had not sent a spot due to a lack of phone signal.  A few more called in but after Bill G4WSB called in there was a long silence so I assumed that no spot had gone up so I went QRT.  However, Bill had placed a spot for me ..thanks and apologies Bill. Whilst preparing to go and change the links for 40m I heard Adrian GW4AZS/p calling on 2m from GW/SW-041 Black Mountain so another s2s was in the log…thanks Adrian. After the s2s I turned the volume up on the FT817 only to find a few stations on 60m asking if I had been heard ..oops…I soon jumped in and gave them the summit :)

A ‘heads up’ from Don and with no other chasers on 60m I quickly changed the links to 40m and grabbed another s2s. David was on Linton Hill GM/SS-263 so thanks for that one David and Don. The chasers managed to find me lower down and I had a good run on this band..great fun and very orderly..thanks.
A clear but cold day..at least it's not raining :)

I managed to get a text out to David M0YDH/p to see if he was nearing the summit of Long Mynd Pole-Bank G/WB-005 but as you can see it took quite a while to get the s2s with him and Alistair…it was time for a coffee break to keep warm :)  …thanks both.
Waiting for that final s2s
